Sam Shepard stars in this true story of a filly racehorse by the name of Ruffian. She was undefeated in her first 10 races, but as she becomes the most successful thoroughbred in horse racing history, the more pressure there is to place her in a one-on-one match with the horse to beat – Foolish Pleasure. Despite the concerns of her trainer Frank Whiteley (Shepard) she takes on the most momentous race in her life, neck in neck with her competitor – a battle of the sexes.
Truly a great story and reminds me of all the other great racing horse movies I have seen – The Dreamer, Secretariat, and SeaBiscuit. If you love horses or horse-racing – this is a true-story about a beautiful filly set back in the early to mid 1970’s. There are a couple of spots in this movie that not be for the faint of heart, but all in all a truly good movie!
